It was another bumper round of Under 17 football in the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL).

Here is our weekend wrap:

Division 1 –

With the re-grading process leaving just four teams in Division 1, we were left with two quality affairs in Round 5. Led by eight individual goal-kickers, Mordialloc Braeside got the better of Beaumaris away from home by just eight points, with the home team left to rue their inaccuracy in front of goal. In the other fixture, Ormond produced an equally-impressive away victory over Dingley by 11 points, with Jack McCartney putting in a best afield performance to go along with his three goals.

Division 2 –

After being placed in Division 2  as a result of the re-grading process, both East Malvern and Cheltenham were on the end of losses to Beaumaris and Ajax respectively by narrow margins. In the other fixtures, St Bedes/Mentone continue to impress with a 53-point victory over South Melbourne Districts after powering away in the second-half with seven goals to three, while five goals from Luke Nunn helped St Peters on to a 34-point victory over St Kilda City.

Waverley Park came away from Mordialloc Braeside with an impressive 10-goal victory despite a slow start, Ormond accounted for the Caulfield Bears comfortably while East Sandringham and Murrumbeena played out a thriller, with the Rovers coming out on top by just a solitary point.
