It was another bumper round of Under 17 football in the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL).

Here is our weekend wrap:


Division 1 – 

East Malvern’s poor start to the season in Division 1 continued with a 115-point thrashing at the hands of Dingley, with Jake Farrington (9) and Terence Patten (4) combining to set up the mammoth win. Beaumaris returned to winning ways with a 93-point win over Cheltenham, outscoring the visitors by 12 goals to just one after quarter-time. While down the coast at Mordialloc and it was Ormond who came away with the win in what was an exciting affair, running out 21-point victors after both sides jostled for the lead all day.

Division 2 – 

A best afield performance and five-goal haul from C.Love-linay saw South Melbourne account for St Bedes/Mentone by 40-points, aided by a blistering five goal to zip opening quarter. Oakleigh ran out of puff after a competitive first-quarter away to St Peters, outscored 11 goals to three after the first break with Luke Nunn bagging five. In the final game, it was Ajax who came from behind at three-quarter-time to defeat St Kilda City by 16-points at Princes Park. The Comets trailed at every major break throughout the contest but produced a spirited last quarter to get the chocolates.

Division 3 – 

Rounding out the weekend wrap and there were some hefty margins in Division 3. Modialloc served Ajax a footballing lesson to the tune of 94 points and Beaumaris came away from Murrumbeena with an 82-point victory. In the other results, Caulfield were left to rue what was a dismal first-half in which they were held goalless, only to match Waverley Park in the second-half with seven goals apiece. Ormond rounded off the fixtures with a 37-point away victory to East Sandrinham, coming from behind at three-quarter time to outscore the Zebras 10 goals to five in an electric final quarter.
