Well another week goes by in the McDonald’s Under 17 Division 1 season and again we were treated to a contrast of results.
Ormond JFC v South Melbourne Districts FC
Ormond were able to get over the top of South Melbourne Districts by 51 points at Albert Park off the back of a very dominant first half. They managed to hold South Melbourne to just one behind for the first two quarters.
South Melbourne fought back well to win the third quarter but the job was already done for Ormond. Tonn Steele was best on ground and managed to kick two goals to seal a terrific performance.
Mordialloc-Braesdie JFC v East Malvern JFC
Over at Walter Galt Reserve, Mordialloc-Braeside sent out a signal of their intent for this season with a 118-point win over East Malvern. Mordi-Brae were dominant from start to finish.
A bag of 11 goals from Matt Wetering helped continue his terrific start to the season, and he now has 18 majors in just three games.
Cheltenham JFC v Beaumaris JFC
In the final game of the round we were given an absolute classic between Cheltenham and Beaumaris at Le Page Park. The Sharks were triumphant by just one solitary point and they had to earn it the hard way.
After an incredibly tough week last week the Panthers seemed doomed to a similar fate when they trailed by 22 at the first break.
But when they held Beauy goalless in the second term and they were able to lead by half time and then extend that lead to 18 points by the last change.
Seemingly on the verge of a huge win the Panthers were overrun by the Sharks who kicked four goals to one in the last quarter to steal a one-point victory from the jaws of defeat.
What more can be said, every week the story that is this season just gets better and better and it’s only Round 3!
