The McDonalds Under 17 Division 1 season kicked off this weekend with a bang.

South Melbourne Districts FC v East Malvern JFC

South Melbourne Districts and East Malvern Junior Football Club played out an opening round classic with the final result only a matter of just over a goal.

Four goals from Alexander Scott, and three from Lachlan Rennie lead South Melbourne to the win. A four goal to one, third quarter in favour of South Melbourne turned the game around and there was no way back for the Knights.

Edward Ralph was terrific for East Malvern while Matthew March and Lachlan Armstrong were close to best on ground for South Melbourne.

Cheltenham JFC v Mordialloc-Braeside JFC

Cheltenham Panthers hosted Mordialloc-Braeside in a tightly fought affair.

It was a closely run race right up to three quarter time with the margin just a single point, but four goals from Mordi-Brae helped them overrun the Panthers.

Mordialloc-Braeside had 10 individual goal scorers, a spread that Chelt couldn’t deal with.

Beaumaris JFC v Ormond JFC

In the last game of the round it was a very slow start that cost Beaumaris, scoreless in the first quarter, and still goalless by the main break the Sharks were never really in it.

Ormond managed to extend their lead right throughout the opening half and by three quarter time they had skipped away to a 10-goal lead. It wasn’t all negative though from Beauy point of view, they managed to score four last term goals and held the Monders to just two behinds.

If round one is any indication we are in for one very interesting and exciting season.
