The eagerly anticipated clash between South Metro Junior’s and the Yarra Junior’s respective Colts representative teams is here.

Who: SMJFL Colts v YJFL

When: 7pm – Wednesday 16th September

Where: Oval 1 – Bulleen Park, Bulleen (adjacent to Carey Sports Grounds).

The SMJFL is delighted to announce the inaugural SMJFL vs. Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL) Colts representative match. This match is an initiative of the SMJFL Player Retention Working Party. It has been designed and implemented to reward those SMJFL Clubs that have Under 17.5 SMJFL teams, and the players participating in the oldest age group. In doing so the format allowed only Clubs with a U17.5 team to nominate a player(s).

The nominated Under 17 boys have been training hard over the last month, and the final squad has been announced (full list below). Nominated from their home clubs, the SMJFL has a selection of 13 clubs represented in the playing team. They will take on the YJFL’s team which, through a different selection process, is made up primarily of players from their Colts  (U16 & U17) competition Team of the Year.

Further to rewarding and recognising the players (and clubs) in our oldest age group, this match provides a fantastic opportunity for umpire and coach development. The recipient of the SMJFL Golden Whistle Award – Doug Haworth – will take to the field alongside his YJFL equivalent.

In the coaches box we have solid experience with Matt McLennan (Mordialloc-Braeside) and Nick Graham (South Melbourne), expertly lead by our recently appointed Coaching Director (Interleague) David Sheridan. This team is supported by SMJFL Interleague Coordinator – Stephen Zayler, and of course many parents and families fulfilling important off-field and on-field duties.

Good luck to all involved.
