The St Peters Under 15 Girls team secured a premiership double by winning Sunday’s grand final against East Sandringham East at Moorleigh Reserve.

Many of the victorious girls also played in St Peters’ Under 14 premiership last year, with both campaigns being guided by coach Hayley Lyons.

Lizzie Wardlaw headed a host of St Peters girls who starred in a tight and scrappy contest, played in bright but windy conditions.

After the teams lined up for the national anthem, St Peters soon got to work setting up their triumph with two first-quarter goals kicked into the teeth of an end-to-end breeze.

While East Sandringham made it a tough contest throughout the second and third quarters, St Peters maintained control with a goal in each term.

The Zebras never gave in though, pushing forward several times in the second half but without reward on the scoreboard.

Bethany Supple, Olivia Gleeson, Sophie Stewart and Taylah Grasso were other key players for St Peters, while Emma Valeri was fantastic up forward with two goals.

Congratulations to all involved in the St Peters and East Sandringham teams for putting on a fantastic day of girls’ footy, and well done on your 2013 SMJFL seasons.
