On Saturday, the South Metro Junior Football League U15 Division 1 squad will face off against the Eastern Football League, hoping to extract revenge after losing to them by 10 points in last year’s grand final.

In the first three rounds of the competition the South Metro squad swept all three games to arrive at the final game undefeated.

It was a powerful performance first up against the South East Juniors where they ran out 71-point winners. The second game would prove to be a much tougher slog as they were able to capitalise on accurate kicking in front of goal to just edge out the Essendon District Football League by seven points. The final game was a 113-point rout of the Western District Football League which gave them plenty of momentum and confidence to take into this weekend’s grand final.

Isaac Morrisby will need to keep up his work in front of goal with the forward kicking a competition high 12 goals while Jack Higgins has also chipped in with seven. The two will be a difficult match up for Eastern with their versatility and ability both in the air and at ground level.

While Eastern also emerge from their pool undefeated they appear to have had a tougher run on the road to the grand final as their biggest winning margin was 33 points and they’ve had two other games decided by less than three goals.

One thing that has plagued the Eastern team all competition long has been accuracy in front of the big sticks, kicking 27.37 in their three outings. It’s a stark contrast with the South Metro team who have been deadly in front of goal kicking a combined 46.23 in their games.

If Eastern continue to fail capitalising on forward thrusts then they must limit the entries into the South Metro forward line because if the boys up front have shown us anything so far it’s that they only need a half chance to kick a goal.

The South Metro defence will have to be mindful of Jaidyn Stephenson who has kicked six goals in his last two games and was the game changer in their win over the Northern Football League.

The game will take place at Shepley Oval at 2:30pm on Saturday the 21st of June.
