Under 14 Division 2 Interleague Grand Final PreviewThe U14 Division two boys are ready for their grand final match with Eastern Football League (EFL) after an extraordinary journey through to the match on June 28.

After their impressive first win against Yarra Junior Football League by 33 points, the boys followed up with a resounding win over Western Region Football League by 93 points.

After setting themselves up with two wins, the loss to Essendon District Football League by 39 points in round 3 didn’t stop SMJFL from reaching the grand final.

Two-time best player and leading goal-kicker Benjamin King has been working hard over the last three rounds for the team. With King being only two goals behind Eastern’s Jake Gasper for the interleague, he could kick his way to being the leading goal-kicker in the Grand Final.

Another potential game changer is Harrison Reynolds – two-time best player who’s kicked four goals for the championships.

Coach Danny Kelly thinks the past three rounds have been good preparation for the grand final.

“Under pressure, you find what the boys are picking up,” Coach Kelly says.

“By the third game we lost to a big opposition. You’ve got to do that to learn”. However for Coach Kelly, it’s about trust.

“There’s two key themes: Trust each other and believe they can be part of the team.

“If one of your teammates call for the ball, you give it to them.

“It’s about the trust factor.”
