Our South Metro Stars take on the South East Juniors (SEJ) and the Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL) in the U13 division 1 and 2 Interleague Carnival in Bulleen on Sunday June 7.

Former Mordialloc Braeside U15 and U16 coach, Bill Leggett will lead the U13 Interleague Carnival team for the matches on Sunday.

Leggett is currently not coaching club football, but takes tremendous pride in coaching the South Metro Stars. He is very confident in the squad he has at his disposal.

The squad of 48 players has been put together from 20 member clubs of the SMJFL.

“Across the two teams there is an overall balance of athletic skills and football smarts,” Leggett said.

“Players such as Sam Pirola, Jake Bowey, Darby Hipwell, Tom Williams and Nick Taranto are just a sample of the talent that will be representing the league, all of whom display the respect and discipline that should make both teams competitive units.”

Leggett has great respect for the carnival talking about the honour it is to be a part of the campaign.

“No doubt the occasion will be exciting for all involved, for the players and their families as well as the coaches and the SMJFL staff,” Leggett said.

“But we need to keep a level headed approach to the challenges that we shall all face and remember that being a participant in this tournament is a significant achievement for all of the players.”

In terms of what Leggett hopes to gain out of the weekend from his team? It’s pretty simple.

“On the weekend when we see 48 young players all chatting and enjoying playing with their new friends and team mates in the South Metro Stars, learning to respect the efforts and sacrifices that all of the parents have made to enable this to happen then that will be the achievement that will be my personal highlight.”

The first game starts at 10am with the last game to be played at 1:50pm. There will be a post carnival event at Toorak Park, Armadale at 4pm where players, coaches and parents will receive awards.
