Cold and wet conditions greeted our South Metro Girls for the Under 10 Girls NAB Lightning Carnival at Moorleigh Reserve on Saturday.

East Sandringham, St Peters Green, St Peters Red and Waverley Park Hawks took to the field like mudlarks for two matches each.

The teams played in the Pearce Group, named after the first pick in the recent inaugural women’s draft, Daisy Pearce from the Darebin Falcons.

All girls put in a fantastic effort in the conditions and St Peters Red was the team to emerge with the Under 10 Girls pennant. Congratulations girls!

10 teams in the South Metro Girls Under 12 division then braved the cold and wet later that afternoon at Moorleigh in the Under 12 NAB Lightning Carnival.

Hampton, East Malvern Blue, St Peters, East Malvern Red and East Brighton Vampirettes played four games against each other in the Chiocci Group, named after the second pick in the inaugural women’s draft, Steph Chiocci.

St Peters came through on top to claim the Chiocci Group pennant, just hours after the club also won the Under 10 Girls pennant.

East Sandringham Zebbies East, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers, Beaumaris Lady Sharks, Mordialloc-Braeside and Ormond/St Pauls’s (The Mashers) made up the O’Connor Group, named after another star Victorian women’s footballer, Aasta O’Connor.

Beaumaris Lady Sharks swam through the tough going to take home the O’Connor Group pennant.

Well done to all girls involved for putting on a great day of South Metro Girls football!
