On Sunday 17 August 2014 at Meade Reserve, the top side of the South, Bentleigh Red took on third-placed side Beaumaris. With only one win separating the two sides and percentage pushing Beaumaris down to third; the contest was going to be heated.

Both Beaumaris and Bentleigh had confident victories into the final, proving both teams were an equal chance in this contest.

The first quarter saw the scores level, with both teams playing competitively in the beginning.

In the second, scores were still tight. While Bentleigh managed to score another goal, Beaumaris weren’t able to make goals sail through, scoring 2.3 to Bentleigh’s 3.0. Bentleigh held the small three-point lead heading into the long break.

By the third quarter, Bentleigh was able to gain some ground, scoring 3 goals with Beaumaris only registering a point. Bentleigh now held the biggest margin in the game so far, up by 20 points at the end of the third.

However Beaumaris weren’t going down without a fight. They managed to score 4.1 in the final quarter to Bentleigh’s 1.0. But despite their courageous comeback, they couldn’t catch up to Bentleigh’s score, losing the match by a singular point.

Benjamin Morris-Smith and Jack Stuber both scored two goals each in their sides’ win, while William Durston led the goalkicking at Beaumaris with three for the match.
