The Comets started off their finals campaign brilliantly with an impressive 60-point victory over the Oakleigh Dragons. Meanwhile the St Peters boys had a harder mountain to climb with the Murrumbeena Lions putting on serious pressure in their semi-final. In the end, the St Peters team was victorious by 11 points to earn their spot in the Grand Final.
The first quarter saw an evenly paced start between the Comets and St Peters. Both sides managed a major and minor score, with Ajax just able to score a second minor to the one from St Peters.
However in the second, the St Peters side broke away and dominated the quarter. The lead was now in the St Peters favour to six points, but more pressure was needed to extend their lead. The Comets were able to put on the heat and convert opportunities into goals when needed, as they did in their semi-final.
After the half-time break, the Ajax side managed to do just that. With a huge haul of three goals and five behinds, the Comets were back in business and the tide had turned. Now facing a 17-point margin, the St Peters side needed to band together and claim their momentum back.
In the end, the goal-kickers from Ajax, led by Ethan Siegel and Jackson Kalb who scored two apiece, were too much for St Peters to withstand. Another huge quarter saw the Comets kick 4.3 to seal their victory in the U13 third division. The Comets won their Grand Final match by 38 points.
Final score: Ajax U13 Comets: 8.11.59 defeated St Peters U13 Div 3: 3.3.21
Best on Ground for the Comets was Liam Eliau.
