The 2015 Under 11 South White Grand Final between St Bedes/Mentone Tigers and the Waverley Park Hawks was a game for the ages.

A hard fought contest all afternoon, the players on both sides gave everything they have for the full four quarters, just like they had all season.

Honour were split between the two sides during the home and away season. Waverley Park drew first blood with an 11-point win at Southern Road Reserve in the opening game of the season, but St Bedes reversed the result in Round 10, winning by seven points at Lum Reserve.

St Bedes were eventually crowned minor premiers after notching 13 wins from its 15 games, while the Hawks finished third on 10 wins and a draw.

Both teams then looked superb in their Semi Final wins to qualify for the big dance.

The Tigers won through to the decider after a convincing 41-point win over Hampton Rovers at Chisholm Reserve. In the match that immediately followed, Waverley Park knocked off South Melbourne Districts with a rousing 37-point triumph.

And the Grand Final the following week lived up to the early hype.

The two sides fought hard in the first term, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Both the Tigers and the Hawks score a goal each to see the scores level again at the first change.

The Hawks then asserted their dominance over the next two quarters. They scored a goal in each of the terms to advance to a 16-point lead at the final change, a sizable advantage given the low-scoring nature of the contest.

But, with their backs to the wall, the Tigers then clawed their way back into the contest with a goal in the final term. Unfortunately, however, there wasn’t enough time for them to steal an unlikely comeback, and Waverley Park held on to clinch the title with a nice-point victory.

Hawk Tommy Warner was the star of the show, duly claiming the best on ground medallion after booting two goals in his side’s victory. Harvey Emery was the side’s other goalkicker.

Charlie Daddo fought hard all day for the Tigers, kicking their two goals.

St Bedes/Mentone Tigers: 2.1 (13)

Waverley Park Hawks: 3.4 (22)
