Season 2018 shapes as an exciting journey for the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) and it’s Member Clubs.

Helping lead that journey are a number of new staff and board members, who will look to build on the successes of 2017 and strive to achieve our vision to be the most respected independent junior sporting code nationally.

SMJFL Media caught up with Ian Leach (Football Operations Coordinator) ahead of the new season.

SMJFL Media: Tell us about your role and how you’ll be of service to the SMJFL members?

Ian Leach: My role as the Football Operations Coordinator is to provide administrative support to Emily McIntyre (General Manager – Football & Operations) and the SMJFL clubs. I will be the first point of contact for club officials for all competition, fixture and football operation enquiries and questions. I will also be on hand for any assistance needed with the online platform FootyWeb.

SMJFL: What are some of the exciting projects you’ll be working on this off-season and in 2018?

IL: There are not too many projects that will be seen by the wider SMJFL community until the season starts in April. However, behind the scenes I have been working hard on reviewing and updating the By-Laws for the 2018 season, going through grading and fixturing processes, while also working with clubs to provide administrative support as required.

SMJFL: What are you looking forward to in 2018?

IL: With this being my first season in junior Australian Rules football, I am looking forward to the competition getting underway and getting out and meeting the SMJFL community. This is such an exciting time for the League and I am grateful that I can be part of it.
