The South Metro Stars Youth Girls, U14s and U15s will be lacing up their boots and playing down at SMJFL’s home ground (Boss James Reserve, Hampton) for the rest of the 2015 Interleague for the long weekend.

The U14s sides were the only Stars games played at home last week against Essendon District Football League (EDFL). Both teams won their matches against EDFL, with Div 1 securing the win by 30 points. Div 2 played a tighter game, winning by 11 points.

The U14 teams will play at Boss James Reserve on Monday June 8 against Eastern Football League (EFL).

Both U15s sides had a successful first round away at Burnside Heights Recreational Reserve. Facing off against EDFL, the Div 1 side played a neck-and-neck game right up till the end, where both teams drew at 38 points.

The Div 2 side also played a really close game, but the Div 2 Stars managed to lead at the final change, defeating the Div 2 EDFL side by seven points.

The U15s will be facing off against Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL) on Saturday June 6 at Boss James Reserve.

Last week the Youth Girls played a really difficult game against the YJFL,  who were an impressive side on the night. The Stars lost the game by 134 points. The girls are hoping to bounce back in the next match against the South East Juniors (SEJ) on Saturday June 6 at home.

The South Metro Stars Youth Girls play YJFL 2 side on Monday June 8 also at Boss James Reserve.

In a great move by AFL Victoria and wholly backed by the SMJFL, each age group Division 1 and Division 2 teams will now play at the same venue each round.

For the first round, this created a great atmosphere at the game, with the players watching the other divisions’ games and cheering their fellow Stars on.

SMJFL encourage you to attend the rest of our home games over this long weekend, support the selected players from your local team and to see the up-and-coming players of the SMJFL.

Grand Finals for the Under 15s and Youth Girls will be played on Saturday 20th June, and the Under 14s on Saturday 27th June. The final will be hosted by the league that finishes on the top of Division 1 ladder after Round 3. Good luck to the South Metro Stars for the rest of the 2015 Victorian Metro Junior Championships and we look forward to seeing you there.
