Round 13 saw the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) celebrate the inaugural Connor’s Beanie Round thanks to charity partner, the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation.

The leagued asked that all participants including players, coaches, team managers, goal umpires, runners, trainers and supporters wear a beanie (or buy an RCD Beanie) and make a gold coin donation in recognition of children with brain cancer.

Brain cancer is the number one cancer killer of kids in Australia. The Robert Connor Dawes Foundation was created by Liz and Scott Dawes after their son Connor passed away from Brain Cancer at the age of 18 in 2013.

The RCD Foundation primarily raises funds for research for a cure and improved treatment options for children and young adults with brain cancer.

Don’t forget to tag @SMJFL in all your club photos to feature in our weekly instalment of Social Spot!
