School Sport Victoria has announced its teams for Australian Rules football squads, which will play in the School Sports Australia Championships. These are being held in Maroochydore in Queensland, on the 23rd July through to the 30th of July. Talented Victorian school students are chosen for “Team Vic” from primary or secondary schools affiliated with School Sport Victoria.
After a number of trial sessions, there has been only one team per age group entered into the national carnival.
The SMJFL would like to congratulate all SMJFL registered players who both trialed and were ultimately selected for the team.
In the 12 years & under squad, the youngest representatives get to have their first taste of representative football. This step in the talent pathway builds a good foundation for understanding the trialing and selection process. The SMJFL is excited to recognise George Wardlaw (St Peters FC) who was selected in the final squad of 23 players. Darcy Gilbert (East Brighton Vampires JFC) was named as an emergency for the squad.
In the 15 & under boys team, the SMJFL is proud to have three South Metro Stars named in the final team. Corey Watts (Beaumaris FC) was named among the 25 players. Darby Hipwell (East Sandringham JFC) and Chayce Black (Waverley Park Hawks JFC) were included in the squad as an emergencies.
Best of luck to all players selected.
What is ”Team Vic”?
Students participating in ‘‘Team Vic’’ state teams represent Victoria in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian states and territories. These teams compete in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. Forty-six teams are selected across twenty-two sports, involving about one thousand Victorian primary and secondary school students.
