In another great result for the SMJFL, we will have two more of our former juniors join the AFL ranks for season 2015.

Former Beaumaris Shark, Sean McLaren was selected by the Sydney Swans with their first round selection in the AFL Pre Season and Rookie Draft with pick number 17.

The 197cm versatile big man was mainly used in the ruck at Beaumaris and in the TAC Cup but the Swans have indicated they may want to use the talented big man in a key position post.

McLaren was part of the AIS program and was used largely in defence for Victoria Metro where he excelled during the U18 carnival. McLaren will join fellow Beaumaris junior, Harry Dear in the AFL after Dear was selected by the Adelaide Crows at pick number 58 overall in the NAB AFL Draft a week prior.

North Melbourne also selected former Mordialloc-Braeside Mustang, Will Fordham, in the AFL Pre Season and Rookie Draft with pick number 33.

Fordham, a tall midfielder at 188cm, will add some depth to the Roos’ midfield after boasting some impressive numbers in this year’s TAC Cup.

Averaging 20 disposals, six marks, three inside 50s and three tackles, Fordham looks a ready-made player for the AFL. He possesses good pace and evasive skills and has shown talent at either end of the ground.

Congratulations to both players and we look forward to watching you forge successful AFL careers.
