Girls from four SMJFL clubs had the fantastic opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of the MCG at halftime of the Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs clash on Saturday night.

Last weekend was Women’s Round in the AFL and Saturday night was a particularly significant occasion for female football in Australia.

The curtain raiser to the AFL match was the Women’s Exhibition game between two teams of the country’s best female footballers, drafted to play for either the Demons or Dogs.

At halftime, the SMJFL was represented in two girls’ Auskick Rules games and two girls’ grid games.

East Brighton Vampires JFC and Beaumaris JFC fielded teams in the Auskick Rules games, while Waverley Park Hawks JFC and Dingley JFC fielded teams in the grid games.
