Season 2017 of the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) has officially come to an end following the Under 14-18 Grand Finals across the south-east yesterday. 

Matches were held across five venues, with Hurlingham Park also featuring the inaugural ‘Community Cup’, two Under 12 Boys & Girls Intraleague curtain-raiser matches. These matches saw the youngsters don the colours of league partners the Melbourne and St Kilda Football Clubs.

2017 was a landmark year for the SMJFL. Here is a breakdown:

  • 10,500+ registered boys and girls
  • 450+ teams
  • 136% increase in girls-only teams from 2016
  • 500+ registered umpires
  • 30,000+ parents and volunteers
  • The largest independent junior football league in Australia

The SMJFL would like to praise all teams who participated in finals and congratulate those clubs who earned premiership pennants.
