It’s a special edition of the weekly wrap this week, as we focus on the players who will be representing the SMJFL in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Junior Championships beginning this Wednesday. Let’s take a look at how some of these talented boys fared in Round 7 action on the weekend:

–    East Sandringham scored their second win of 2013 with a strong 45-point victory over St Kilda City in U14 Div 1. SMJFL interleague representatives Charlie Constable (Div 1), Sam Loewe and Nathan Murphy (both Div 2) were important players for the Zebs.

–    Eight East Malvern players have made the U14 rep squad, so it’s no wonder the Knights are undefeated in U14 Div 1. They comfortably knocked off a fellow undefeated side in Mordialloc Braeside on the weekend, with five of those interleague players (all Div 1) hitting the scoreboard – Lachie Height and Isaac Morrisby kicked two majors, while Jack Higgins, Angus Styles and Geordie Nagle each contributed one snag.

–    Beaumaris joins East Malvern at the top of the U14 Div 1 table with seven straight victories to open the year. Will Armstrong, Hayden McLean, Josh Gorman (all Div 1) and Lucas Barrett (Div 2) were responsible for almost half of Beauy’s goal tally in its 37-point victory over Mt Waverley, while Gianluca Cappiello (Div 1) was the best for the Falcons with four goals.

–    Hampton dominated Ajax in the other U14 Div 1 match with Tom Yorgey (Div 1) booting five goals and Adam Schaeche (Div 2) three. Asher Berlinski (Div 1) and Jake Liberman (Div 2) were brave in defeat for the Comets and all will want to keep their good form going on Wednesday night…

–    East Brighton’s Liam Farrell (Div 2) and St Peters’ Harry Wardlaw (Div 1) starred in a tight tussle between their teams in U14 Div 2, with the Vampires turning around a two-point deficit at the last change to win by 10!

–    … South Melbourne White has U14 Div 2 at its mercy though, after a win over nearest ladder rival Prahran sent it three games clear on top of the table. Harry Gustin (Div 1) was one of the best for the Districts.

–    When East Brighton clashed with St Peters in U15 Div 1 on the weekend, it would’ve almost felt like a practice match for the Metro Champs! The two clubs boast 19 of the 52 players in the Under 15 interleague squad – 11 in Div 1 and eight in Div 2. Some of the stars on the day were Vampires Michael Rogers, Andrew McGrath and Jesse Maxfield (all Div 1) and St Peters boys Corey Lyons, Jesse Smith and Will Taylor (all Div 1). Oh, by the way, East Brighton won by 36 points…

–    East Malvern Blue received valuable scoreboard contributions from Sam Dorevitch (Div 2), Harry Crowe (Div 2) and Xavier Jordan (Div 1) in a big U15 Div 1 triumph over East Sandringham. Dan Tocher (Div 2) was the Zebs’ only multiple goalkicker in this one.

–    Waverley Park are undefeated and sitting pretty on top of the U15 Div 3 ladder and star Hawk Harry Coleman was a key part of the victory over East Malvern White on Sunday. Harry worked his magic with two goals and will hope to back it up on Wednesday in the Div 2 Metro Champs match…

The SMJFL wishes all its interleague representatives the best of luck for Wednesday night’s games – hopefully it’s the start of four successful Metro Champs campaigns.

Make sure you get to either Moorleigh Reserve or Narre Warren North Recreation Reserve on Wednesday to show your support for the South Metro boys!
