The Comebacks:

–    Fair ol’ comeback from Hampton in Under 13 Div 2 on Sunday… The Rovers probably should’ve been closer than 13 points down to Murrumbeena Gold at three-quarter time, but just couldn’t kick straight. The Rover Radar improved in the last term though, as Hampton squeaked home by three points for their first win of the season.

–    South Melbourne Red kept their undefeated start to the year alive in Under 14 Div 4, but they didn’t make it easy for themselves… A great second quarter from Mordi-Brae opened up a 25-point margin at half time. No panic from the ice-cool Districts, though: Just produce a six-goal-to-nil third term and get back in front! Blaise Bajram was their best in the 18-point win.

The Heartbreakers:

–    Unfortunately heartbreak lived in Under 12 North this week, with three games decided by less than 10 points. South Melbourne Red knocked off Mt Waverley by three points, after trailing at half time by 12; Mordialloc-Braeside Red held off Hampton by 10 points; Oakleigh defeated East Brighton Vampires by six; and Waverley Park Gold crawled over the line by one single, frustrating point against Northvale…

–    Here’s a heartbreaker if I’ve ever seen one: In Under 17 Div 1, Beaumaris Sharks were sitting pretty on a 20-point three-quarter time lead over Caulfield Bears, after having double the scoring shots of their opponents. Yet, the Bears roared in the last term, kicking 4.6 (30) to nothing to swipe their first victory of the year! That’s gotta hurt…

The Heroes:

–    What a fantastic Under 11 Blue battle between St Peters Blue and Dingley Red! While there was never more than a couple of goals in it, St Peters trailed after every quarter… Except the last. Two goals to one in final term sealed a resilient win, with Sam Pritchard, Michael Blight and Patrick Griffith some of the stars for the victors.

–    Congratulations to Zachary Rattray – two goals in his 100th game for St Peters in Under 13 Div 3. And yes, they had a win for him too!

–    Belter in Under 15 Div 2! Prahran were able to keep Mordialloc-Braeside at arm’s length most of the game, but the Mustangs made a charge from 17 points down at the last change. Alas, they came up short by a measly three points. Thomas Jenkins, who booted two goals, was Mordi-Brae’s best, while Sebastian Finnegan was huge for Prahran with five crucial majors.

–    Athan Xenos, you’d just about make the ‘Heroes’ section based on your fantastic name alone, but you also had a super game for Ormond in Under 16 Div 2 on Sunday. Athan was on fire as Ormond chalked up their first win for 2013 against East Sandringham by 15 points.

And of course, the Girls:

–    After a tough defeat to St Peters last week, the Under 15 East Sandringham girls are on the board this season after defeating Mordialloc-Braeside. The win keeps them in touch with the runaway ladder leaders, the undefeated St Peters and East Brighton Vampirettes.

–    Meanwhile, East Malvern had mixed fortunes in the Under 12 Girls, with their Red team triumphant by 25 points over East Brighton Vampirettes thanks to a strong last quarter, but the club’s Blue team going down to Hampton by 21 points.
