For many of the SMJFL’s Under 11s, 12s and 13s, Round 14 marked the end of their football year, but for the top four teams in each division, the finals await. Good luck to all teams in this week’s semi finals and for those who didn’t make it, the SMJFL sincerely hopes you enjoyed your football in 2012.

–    In Radiant Under 11 East, Prahran Red DID achieve that elusive undefeated home-and-away season with a final-round win over Mordialloc-Braeside. Can they now avoid falling at one of the final hurdles?

–    Prahran Blue finished top of the table in Radiant Under 11 South, but only after scraping past fellow finals contender East Malvern Red… Prahran should’ve sewn it up well before three-quarter time, but the goalkicking radar was going wild: 3.10 (28) was just enough to beat East Malvern’s 4.2 (26).

–    Waverley Park Gold left it VERY late to slip things into top gear against Hampton and establish themselves in the Under 12 East finals. Down by nine points after scoring just 1.3 (9) in three quarters, Waverley plucked a 4.3 (27) final term out of thin air to conjure an 18-point victory. Broc Calwell and Jake Gasper (with three goals) were the master magicians for the victors.

–    In the log jam for third and fourth in Under 12 West, Ormond and Prahran Red just needed wins to seal their finals spots… And they got them. Clutch!

–    We’re in for a treat in Under 13 Division 2 this week… The top two got a look at each other a week before their semi final on Sunday. In this bout, St Kilda City got the best of Ajax Comets, but will Ajax know exactly how to play them now? We must also mention Remmi Faulkner-Wood’s NINE goals in a winning Dingley Black side – what a way to bow out of the 2012 season!

–    Murrumbeena Gold sure made a statement about who rules the roost in Under 14 Division 1… The only team even close to them on the ladder before Round 14 was East Brighton Vampires – they were ahead of ‘Beena on percentage – but the Gold, led by Riley Watson, smashed them by 58 points!

–    Cheltenham Black could have potentially edged towards a finals spot by beating close ladder rival East Sandringham in Under 15 Division 3… If only they had kicked straight! Despite five more scoring shots, Chelt lost by a shattering 10 points and the finals now look beyond them.

–    Under 16 Division 1’s Beaumaris Sharks visited comeback central on Sunday. Down by 11 to St Kilda City at three-quarter time, Beauy rallied to take the tough win by four points. Jack Munro, Mitchell Kornberg and four goals from Benjamin Oakes… Simply superb.

–    Nice win by Ormond over Under 17 Division 1’s top team, Cheltenham. This was one of the best victories too: Hard-earned after trailing at half time and grinding the game out stronger. Jordan Tabakman was clearly best-on with five sausage rolls.

–    Under 17 Division 2’s South Melbourne and Ajax teams are assured of making the overall Under 17 finals, but they needed to sort out their own pecking order on Saturday… Consider Ajax pecked. But only by two points!
