We’re getting down to the business end of the SMJFL season now… Just one more game for the Under 11, 12 and 13s before finals kick off!

–    Hats off to St Peters from Radiant Under 11 North! The boys lost their first 11 games of the season before giving everything to get the win in Cade Dorrofield and Jamie Hiam’s 50th games. Cade starred in the 20-point win, as did Daniel Mullin, who played a crucial part booting three of St Peters’ four goals. Well deserved, fellas!

–    Just a week after we wondered whether Northvale could go through the season undefeated in Radiant Under 11 Blue, South Melbourne Red knocked them off in style! A goal down at three-quarter time, the Districts stormed home to win a ripper by eight points and open the flag race right up.

–    Two teams up the top end of Under 12 West played out a thriller… Ormond blew away East Malvern Blue in the first half on Sunday, but their opponents rallied to draw level at the final change. East Malvern then wasted a few chances to complete the comeback in the last quarter, allowing Ormond to kick the crucial goal and scrape home by three points. Anthony Seaton was brilliant for the victors – four snags and best-on-ground.

–    In was a ripsnorter all day between South Melbourne Red and Bentleigh in Under 13 Division 3; South Melbourne reversing a one-point deficit at the last change into a one-point triumph. Jamie Brooker stood out, while Isabel Huntington was also in the best for the victors.

–    In a key Under 14 Division 2 clash, the 6-5 Northvale shot away to a 13-point half time lead against the 6-5 Cheltenham. However, Chelt then slipped their attack and defence into gear, kicking 6.7 (43) and restricting their opponents to just 1.1 (7) in the second half. It was showtime for Spencer Ward and Mitchell Freeman, who kicked six sausage rolls.

–    Cheltenham has an undefeated season on the cards in Under 15 Division 1: 12-0 after a fairly comfortable win over Caulfield. Oops, too late – I’ve already put the mozz on them…

–    St Peters Green snatched a draw for John Valles’ 100th game against their ladder-leading opponent in Under 15 Division 2, but it could’ve so easily been different… St Bedes/Mentone Tigers peppered the goals with 6.20 (56)!

–    Under 16 Division 1’s pecking order seems sorted already… Ormond, East Malvern Gold, East Brighton Vampires and Hampton are well clear in the top four following crushing victories against their opponents on Sunday.

–    Were Under 16 Division 2’s St Pauls/Bentleigh Demons watching an old Cameron Mooney highlights package before running out on the weekend?! Can’t believe their inaccurate (and ultimately unsuccessful) score of 4.20 (44)!

–    How about Beaumaris’ effort against the higher-placed Ormond in Under 17 Division 1? A four-goal deficit at the last change still wasn’t enough to keep the Sharks at bay… Drew Kelly kicked three in an epic three-point win!
