SMJFL launches Change our Game forum

The South Metro Junior Football League will hold a Change our Game Female Leadership Forum in September, it has been announced.

The SMJFL applied for and was successful in the Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program, which funds one-off community level events that celebrate the role of women and girls in sport and active recreation.

The league invites its female players between 15 to 18 years of age to apply to attend the SMJFL ‘Change our Game’ Female Leadership Forum on Thursday 16 September 2021 at RSEA Park, hosted by League Ambassador Peta Searle OAM. We have been fortunate to have Peta assist us in developing this program as well as hosting the event. Peta will be joined by St Kilda AFLW players and other special guests.

“I believe every young girl has a voice. I look forward to learning from the young girls who attend the forum, who will provide valuable insight to the league in moulding its future female leadership initiatives.” – Peta Searle OAM

One female player from each SMJFL member club aged between 15 and 18 will participate in the evening and provide valuable feedback to the league.  The key outcomes of the evening are:

  1. To discuss the barriers of participation within the SMJFL region;

  2. To celebrate female leadership; and

  3. To assist in creating the league’s future female mentoring program.
