SMJFL APPOINTS JAMIE HOWDEN AS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER



The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) is delighted to announce the appointment of Jamie Howden as its new CEO, effective from Monday 10 June, 2024.


Speaking of the appointment, SMJFL Chair, Richard Bowen, said Jamie would bring a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as CEO of the Cathy Freeman Foundation, CEO of FightMND, General Manager of Ladder (Official charity of the AFL Players’ Association) and Head of Government Relations at Children’s Ground.


“Throughout Jamie’s career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to community-based organisations, and has a proven track record of leadership, organisational governance and community engagement.


“The SMJFL is the largest junior sporting association in Australia, representing more than 15,000 players, umpires, and volunteers. Jamie has had a long association with the SMJFL, as a volunteer Club President, Club Vice President, Head of Football Operations and as a Coach and parent.


“Together with the Board and the Executive team, we look forward to working with Jamie and continuing with SMJFL’s commitment to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for our young players,” Richard said.



Jamie said he was looking forward to working with SMJFL Clubs, partners and the SMJFL team.


“I am excited to be joining the SMJFL to continue its vision of supporting kids play community-based sport. This position is an ideal combination of my professional and volunteering experience to date, as well as a commitment to significantly contribute to the leadership of the SMJFL.


“As well as my professional experience, I have had a consistent and strong involvement in community sport as a player, parent and volunteer for most of my life. I am looking forward to continuing that passion as the SMJFL CEO,” Jamie said.


Jamie holds a Bachelor of Business, RMIT University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Economic Studies, Monash University.
