Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: League Update for All Clubs

Statement from SMJFL Chief Executive Officer Sarah Loh

The league can now update Club Presidents following the latest announcement from the Victorian Premier yesterday.

The Victorian Premier and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer have declared that the current lockdown across metropolitan Melbourne will remain in place until at least 11:59pm, Thursday 23 September 2021.

What this means for the SMJFL:

In compliance with the Victorian Government’s directions, the SMJFL regretfully announces that the remaining 2021 season scheduled for the 5th and 12th of September will not be able to be played.

The SMJFL is currently working on delivering the Football 4 Fun program that took place at the end of 2020 last year.

The league’s main priority remains the health and wellbeing of all players, coaches, umpires and volunteers of the league.

The SMJFL would like to take this opportunity to thank all its Member Clubs, players, parents, volunteers, officials, umpires and league partners for their support and co-operation throughout 2021.

Exposure sites

We ask that clubs encourage their members to review exposure sites, their exposure windows, exposure Tiers and indicated necessary action in efforts to keep the community safe.

With exposure sites now present in our catchment area, this reiterates the importance to take caution and adhere to COVID-Safe protocols.

If you have been knowingly exposed to the virus or have been to the known exposure sites, continue to follow public health advice and COVID-Safe hygiene practices.

Please direct any queries regarding this update to Umpire & Operations Manager Cam Watts or SMJFL Chief Executive Officer Sarah Loh.
