The SMJFL is pleased to announce the appointment of Brooke Hannaford as the new and first female Chair of the SMJFL Board for 2025-2027.
Brooke takes over from the long-serving Chair of the Board Richard Bowen who will remain part of the Board in 2025. Richard has made wonderful advancements to the governance and management of the SMJFL as Chair, following significant contribution as a volunteer.
Brooke Hannaford has been a member of the SMJFL Board since 2021 and brings to this appointment significant expertise and a wealth of knowledge in the Junior Football club space. Brooke has over a decade of involvement at junior clubs including over 8 years as the Secretary at Mordialloc-Braeside Junior Football Clubs.
Brooke was the Vice Chair of the Board in 2024 and also the Chair of the Football, Pathways and Talent (FPT), Grading, Retention and Strategic Plan sub-committees. Brooke shows an undeniable contribution and passion to junior football along with helping the community.
Brooke has an unwavering commitment to our Member clubs with her extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operations of running a grassroots football club.
SMJFL would also like to congratulate Simon Gorr as the new Vice Chair of the Board for 2025. Simon has been on the Board since 2021 and brings 20 years of experience in the Australian sporting industry, including 18 years in a variety of roles at the AFL. Simon’s combination of league experience and industry knowledge is a strong skill set to assist leading the SMJFL towards a prosperous future.
