East Sandringham Rovers 7.7.29 def by Bentleigh JFC 17.13.115

A well-executed first quarter saw Bentleigh race to a 26-point lead by the end of the opening term, characterised by precise kicking and relentless pressure, leaving East Sandy struggling to keep pace. With no signs of slowing down, Bentleigh extended their advantage to 43 points in the second term, leading 64-21. The third quarter saw Bentleigh continue their dominance, adding four more goals to their tally while East Sandy managed only one. Bentleigh’s Oliver Drury was particularly influential, contributing five goals, while Oliver Marshall and Chris Nakos also played key roles, each adding multiple goals. Despite a late surge from East Sandy, goals from Noah Velten and Angus Zufic were unable to match Bentleigh's well-rounded team effort. Contributions from Jackson Morrissey, Charles Nailon, and Finn Sharp, ensured they maintained control until the final siren.

 

Mordialloc-Braeside 16.16.112 def Prahran JFC 3.1.19

Walter Galt Reserve and Mordialloc-Braeside played host to Prahran JFC, with the home side looking to make it back-to-back wins after a narrow victory in Round 13 against Bentleigh. The home side took control from the first bounce, their relentless pressure and accurate kicking surging Mordialloc-Braeside to a 29-point lead at the closure of the first. A similar story prevailed in the second quarter which saw Mordialloc-Braeside extend their lead to 56 points at halftime, with Prahran managing just a solitary goal in response thanks to the visitor’s superb defensive structure. The trend continued in the third term, as Mordialloc-Braeside piled on another five goals, pushing their lead to 76 points, while Prahran could only add a further two goals. William Reeves was a standout with three goals, while William Finch, Hamish McDonald, Hudson Wright, and Josh Welsh each added two. Despite a valiant effort from Prahran’s Harry Stewart, who kicked two goals, and Roman Nuttall, who added another, they were unable to match Mordi-Brae’s intensity and precision. The final term was a formality, as the final siren wrapped up a dominant 93-point win at home for Mordialloc-Braeside.

 

Waverley Park 3.3.21 def by AJAX 28.9.177

Building a solid lead of 48 points by the end of the first quarter, AJAX started with immense intensity in the first quarter. Their momentum snowballed in the second quarter, where they extended their advantage to 83 points at halftime, showing a well-coordinated effort across the field. Phoenix Janover was a standout with five goals for AJAX, while Joshua Slade and Bailey Nussbaum each contributed three. Nico Levy was also instrumental, adding four goals of his own to the scoreboard. The Hawks can take pride in the efforts of Isaac Deayton and William Rice, who both managed to score in challenging circumstances. They managed to put up three goals, demonstrating their ability to find opportunities even against formidable opposition. A colossus final quarter was the cherry on top of a formidable win for AJAX, walking away 156-point winners.

 

East Brighton Vampires 6.4.40 def by St Bedes/Mentone 9.9.63

St Bedes / Mentone Tigers emerged victorious at Hurlingham Park, overcoming a tough East Brighton Vampires. The Vampires took an early lead with a slim 5-point advantage in the first quarter, however St Bedes/Mentone responded with a dominant second quarter, adding five goals to their tally and establishing a 27-point lead by halftime. The hosts fought back in the third term, narrowing the gap with two goals, yet the visitors held firm - maintaining a comfortable lead going into the final term. Daniel Plotkin was a standout for St Bedes/Mentone, contributing four goals, while Lachlan Hecker, Mitchell Kitto, Parker Austin, and Reuben Jewitt O’Reilly also played key roles with goals to their name. Despite the efforts of Jake Seddon, Luke McGinness, Jonte Crawford-Flett, Sam Brown and Connor Tyler, who added one, the Vampires were unable to close the margin, as the early established margin by the visitors was too steep of a deficit to minimise. A sleek final quarter from St Bedes/Mentone put the sealer on a 23-point win away from home, whilst tentatively locking in a finals birth.

St Peters / Bentleigh 8.3.51 def Banyule 4.8.32

The first of 3 games held at Essex Heights Reserve this round, St Peters/Bentleigh secured a hard-fought 19-point victory over Banyule. The home side opened strong, ending the first quarter with a 13-2 lead, thanks to precise goal-kicking from Ruby Hartney and Reanna Barbakas were instrumental in propelling St Peters/Bentleigh toward an early lead. A quick shift in momentum saw Banyule respond fiercely in the second quarter, gaining an 8-point lead attributable to a strong defensive showing by the visitors, which kept St Peters/Bentleigh to no score in the term, along with Alexandra Carroll and Jessica Sheard’s goal-scoring prowess. Despite being brought back into the contest, St Peters/Bentleigh regained control in the third term, extending their lead to 38-25. Tess Baxter and Olivia Fernandez stepped up, whilst Ruby Hartney and Reanna Barbakas added to the scoreboard once again, ensuring in St Peters/Bentleigh stayed in command despite Banyule’s determined challenge. The final term saw St Peters/Bentleigh hold firm by kicking a further two major scores, withstanding Banyule’s late surge to clinch a 19-point victory.

 

Prahran JFC 14.16.100 def Fitzroy 5.1.31

Prahan’s early dominance was reflected on the scoreboard in the first term, converting 2.5 to ascertain a slight 5- point lead. Despite Fitzroy’s early fightback led by Ruby Williams and Pamela Ercolano, Prahran extended their lead to 25 points by halftime, leaving it all to do after the main break for the visitors. Whilst half-time provided a chance for Fitzroy to reset, Prahran put their foot down, with the home side’s Izabela Ignjic executing a relentless attack. Ignjic’s 3rd quarter was a small part of her own 6 goal triumph on the day, Chloe Williams also jumped in on the action claiming two of her own, their collective effort surging Prahran to a 47-point lead. The final term saw Prahran continue to apply pressure, with Edie McLachlan, Lucia Turnbull, and Violet Newton-Brown adding to the scoreboard. Despite Fitzroy’s best efforts, they were unable to mount a comeback, with Prahran cruising to a 69-point victory. Another monumentous victory protects Prahran’s invincible status, as they remain on top of the SMJFL X YJFL U18 Youth Girls Competition ladder.

 

St Kilda City 3.6.24 def by Warrandyte 10.7.67

The final match at Essex Heights Reserve began with both teams showing promise, yet Warrandyte’s quick control allowed them to etch a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. St Kilda City struggled to convert their opportunities, managing only a single goal by halftime while Warrandyte extended their lead to 18 points. The second half saw Warrandyte’s dominance continue as they spread the load across multiple goal kickers, underlining the depth and attacking prowess. Zara Vitiritti, Lucy Prentice, and Ava Radle were among the key contributors, each adding crucial goals to keep the scoreboard ticking. St Kilda City fought hard in the final quarter, but Warrandyte’s relentless pressure and teamwork were too much to overcome. Hayley Papez, Farrah Halsam, Charlotte Coleman, Tessa Coleman, and Sophia Davey, all contributed in the final term, as the visitors sailed away to a 43 point win.
