Monash University U17.5 Boys Division 1

 

Mordialloc-Braeside 8.12.60 def Bentleigh JFC 7.10.52

Bentleigh started strongly at Gerry Green Reserve, a quartet of goals establishing a 19-point lead with a score of 28-9 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Mordialloc-Braeside begin to claw back through Josh Welsh and Fletch Johnson, adding 2.2 to gain some momentum in this fixture. However, Bentleigh were seemingly outshining on the day and created many more scoring opportunities through, most prominently via Chris Nakos. Trailing by 25 points at halftime, Mordialloc-Braeside commenced the third term with all guns blazing, displaying accuracy inside 50 and a secure defensive effort. Propelled by William Reeves, Oliver McKenzie, and William Finch, the home side were able to convert 22 points and capitalise on Bentleigh’s missed opportunities which saw them only add 3 minor scores to their total. A physical contest played out in the final term, with both sides throwing bodies at the ball to inhibit conceding any further goals. Despite Bentleigh’s tenacity to turn the scoreboard in their favour, Mordialloc-Braeside were able to fire a quick 2.3, sealing an 8-point victory away from home.

 

Prahran JFC 1.4.10 def by St Bedes/Mentone Tigers AFC 18.9.117

In what can only be described as a commanding performance and a statement of intent, a strong St Bedes/Mentone Tigers side were welcomed by Prahran at Toorak Park. The visitors set the tone early, leading by 27 points at the closure of the first term. Their momentum continued into the second quarter, as the Tigers extended their lead to 40 points at halftime, reflecting their dominance on both ends of the field. Despite their best efforts, Prahran struggled to find their rhythm and match St Bedes/Mentone Tigers relentless pressure and effective ball movement, as the home side only managed to convert 1 goal in the second. St Bedes/Mentone Tigers extend their lead once again in both the third and final term, attributable to Daniel Plotkin who contributed 4 goals, Oliver Griffin with 3, and Reuben Jewitt O'Reilly also adding 3. Jack Walker, Lachlan Hecker, James Cutler, William Mazzeo, and Luca Scott were also among the team's dominant performers. The closing siren confirmed an emphatic 107 points win for St Bedes/Mentone, edging the Tigers closer to securing a finals spot.

 

East Brighton Vampires 16.12.108 def Waverley Park Hawks 2.4.16

East Brighton hosted Waverley Park at Hurlingham Park, aiming to deliver a statement of intent against the Hawks and etch closer to the top of the Monash University U17.5 Boys Division 1 ladder. The Vampires fired home 34 points to no reply in the first quarter, a relentless attack which prevailed into the second term, establish a comfortable 57-point lead at half time. Tom Raymond stole the show in front of goal, kicking his first of a 5-goal performance, whilst Jake Seddon jumped in on the action with 2 of his own. Contributions from Sonny Manning, Archer Grant, and Tate Jensen-Muir further solidified the Vampires impressive performance. The third quarter saw a slight resurgence from Waverley Park, who managed to add 15 points through Tom McCluskey and Isac Quinlan, yet the Vampires continued to extend their lead. 6 separate individual goals from the home side in the final term highlighted the Vampires scoring strength, powering home to round out a 92-point victory.

Prahran JFC 13.13.91 def St Kilda City JFC 4.0.24

Spearheaded by Harriet Kogler and Chloe Williams, Prahran set the tone from the first bounce at Toorak Park with a comfortable 22-point lead at the first break. The home side continued to pounce in the second, with key contributions from Zari Mildenhall and Emma Hoban pivotal in extending Prahran’s lead to 34 points. Despite a valiant effort, St Kilda City struggled to penetrate Prahran's robust defense, only managing to convert a lone major score before half time. The third quarter saw Prahran accelerate their attack, with standout performers Izabela Ignjic and Hannah Dowling offering 5 goals as a pair, extending the home sides margin once again to 66 points. St Kilda pitched one final spirited attempt at a comeback in the final term, however, it proved too little too late as a late flurry of goals in the final quarter sealed a 67-point victory for Prahran.  Another win retains Prahran’s invincible status and position on top of the SMJFL X YJFL U18 Youth Girls Competition ladder.

 

Banyule 4.2.26 def by Beaumaris 12.20.92

A tight first quarter played out at TH King Oval, as Banyule were able to avoid conceding multiple goals amongst a barrage of scoring attempts from Beaumaris, ending the first quarter at 8-14 in favour of the visitors. However, Beaumaris quickly found their rhythm in the second term, adding 3.4 to extend their lead to 22 points. The main break did not dent Beaumaris’ momentum, as the third quarter saw the Sharks further their dominance. Their offense fired on all cylinders whilst their defense held Banyule to just 12 points, closing the quarter with an impressive 62-26 lead. Showcasing their ability to maintain pressure and capitalise on scoring opportunities, Beaumaris added another 30 points in the final term to their total whilst simultaneously keeping Banyule scoreless, ending the game at 92-26.

 

Warrandyte 12.9.81 def St Peters / Bentleigh 1.1.7

The second of two games at TH King Oval, this fixture kicked off with Warrandyte setting the pace early, ending the first quarter with a strong lead of 29-0. A major confidence booster, Warrandyte snowballed their confidence in to the second term, showcasing their offensive prowess to extend their lead to 47-0 thanks to standout performers Ava Radle, Sophia Davey, and Saraya Landy, all playing key roles in front of goal. Charlotte Brimelow and Lucy Prentice shined in the third term, pivotal in maintaining control and driving Warrandyte towards continuing their relentless assault - pushing the score out to 68-0. St Peters/Bentleigh managed to score their first points in the final term, as Warrandyte sealed their victory with a final score of 81-7.
