2024 SMJFL Presentation Night

The South Metro Junior Football League hosted the 2024 Presentation Night at the Kingston Town Hall on Sunday evening in front of over 1100 attendees across the two sessions.

The SMJFL experienced another big season with SMJFL CEO Jamie Howden shared on the night that in 2024 the league had “10,724 participants playing in 460 teams across 70 divisions at our 26 Member Clubs. The football operations team fixtured over 3,000 games at 61 grounds in the South Metro area.”

The 2024 season included 15 Home and Away Rounds as well as the U8’s Welcome to Footy Carnival, two Lightning Carnival weekends, three weeks of Semi, Preliminary, and Grand Finals, and the AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series. “None of this would have been possible without the dedication and support of the SMJFL team & Club Volunteer network” added Jamie Howden.

Throughout the two sessions on Sunday evening the SMJFL celebrated their premiership winning teams, Best & Fairest award winners, 10-year player awards, AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series award winners, Coach Development Program graduates and the SMJFL Club Volunteer award winners, including the Monash Leader of the Year and The Trybe Club Incentive Award.

The 2024 Club Administrator of the Year was awarded to Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club President Brodie Phillips for his dedication, drive, and commitment to the Club during his influential tenure. Brodie is an inclusive and very supportive President who opens up opportunities for members of his represented club, and always presents at as many games as possible, and makes a strong and regular effort to make families and players feel welcome and part of a fantastic Community Club.

The Monash University Leader of the Year was awarded to Hugo Green from East Malvern Junior Football Club. Hugo embarked on a 350km bike ride down the East Coast of Tasmania to shine a light on the challenges faced by those battling Aplastic Anemia (a condition where the body stops producing new red blood cells). His inspiration for the ride came after seeing his friend & teammate Will O’Byrne, fight his battle with Aplastic Anemia and his courageous post-bone marrow transplant recovery. At the end of the ride Hugo had raised a staggering $29,000 for the Maddie Reiwoldt’s Vision. This is an incredible achievement for Hugo who is only 11 years old. The SMJFL hopes that Hugo’s initiative inspires others to make a difference in the community.
