The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) will kick off the 2023 season with the ‘Welcome to Footy’ Carnival, on Sunday 23 April at Centenary Park.
The ‘Welcome to Footy’ Carnival features a series of round-robins for our brand new U8’s cohort, as they participate in their first games of Australian football, along with their families.
“First games of footy are very special for everyone involved,’’ said Bree Vallance, SMJFL General Manager – Football Operations
“The league wants to ensure all our new participants have a wonderful experience from the very beginning of their footballing journeys, along with all the other newbies who will be going along on their journey with them.”
The round-robin’s will see each team play two games of modified-rules football within their pools, giving them the maximum amount of engagement within the league from the get-go.
“The SMJFL is really about the kids, and what better way to be introduced to your first day of footy with two games,” said Matthew Brown, SMJFL CEO.
“We aim for maximum participation across all our age groups and continue to foster this with events like the ‘Welcome to Footy’ Carnival.
‘I’d like to wish all the players, parents, coaches and volunteers the very best for ‘Welcome to Footy’ and for the SMJFL season as a whole.
The ‘Welcome to Footy’ Carnival will be hosted by St. Peter’s Football Club.
Round 1 for the remainder of the SMJFL starts with grading games on Sunday also.
