Teams will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season or register their first win on Sunday in Round 2 of SMJFL action.
Here’s our Pepper Money Preview for this week where we put a selection of games under the microscope.
Under 18 Girls – East Malvern vs St Kilda City
Sunday 3.00pm, DW Lucas Oval
Both sides are coming off strong wins in Round 1 so this matchup could well be a hit out between two of the stronger sides in the Under 18 competition this season. Given the Knights scored 52 points last week and St Kilda City finished with 30, this could be a high-scoring affair.
Under 17 Boys Div 2 – Mordialloc Braeside vs Dingley
Sunday 3.05pm, Gerry Green Reserve
Both Mordialloc Braeside and Dingley will be hungry for their first win on Sunday after both sides were defeated in Round 1. Dingley will be hoping for another strong game from Daniel Knapper, who kicked four of his sides’ six goals last week.
Under 16 Boys Div 2 – Oakleigh vs St Paul’s Highett
Sunday 2.30pm, W.A Scammell Reserve
Oakleigh won a thrilling game with Port/South Melbourne last week, winning by three points at Albert Park while the Doggies were defeated by Ormond. If Round 1 is any indication, these two teams could be evenly matched when they meet at W.A Scammell Reserve on Sunday.
Under 16 Girls Orange – Cheltenham vs East Sandringham
Sunday 12.00pm, Le Page Park
The Panthers will be full of confidence after a 73-point Round 1 win, while the Zebras also come into this game with a win under their belt after defeating Ajax by three points. East Sandringham will need to try and limit Cheltenham’s scoring, after they recorded 25 scoring shots last week.
Under 15 Boys Div 2 – East Sandringham Rovers vs Bentleigh
Sunday 2.45pm, Boss James Reserve
East Sandringham Rovers recorded one of the biggest scores across the league last week, kicking a whopping 168 points against Waverley Park. Bentleigh were also sharp in attack on their way to a 30-point win over Chogs. If these teams bring that same attacking flare this week, we could be in for a shootout at Boss James Reserve.
Under 14 Mixed Div 3 – Caulfield vs East Brighton Vampires
Sunday 10.15am – Koornang Park
With both teams unsuccessful last week, they will get the chance to chalk up victory number one for 2019 this Sunday at Koornang Park. Caulfield ran into a red-hot Prahran side in Round 1 while the Vampires were no match for East Malvern, so both teams will be keen to turn the tables.
Under 14 Girls Orange – Ajax vs East Brighton Vampires
Sunday 2.45pm – Princes Park
Ajax and East Brighton Vampires both scored big wins to kickstart their seasons last week and will look to continue that when they meet at Princes Park. The Jackettes and the Vampires kicked 12 goals apiece in Round 1, so this could be a high-scoring affair.
Under 13 Mixed Div 2 – Ormond vs Prahran
Sunday 11.35am, E.E Gunn Reserve
Another couple of teams looking to put four points in the win column this weekend. Prahran had their hearts broken last week with a one-point loss to Hampton Rovers, while Ormond were defeated at the hands of St Peters. The four points will be hotly contested at E.E Gunn Reserve.
