Current Richmond Tiger and NAB Rising Star nominee Jack Higgins visited his former South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) club East Malvern following the conclusion of the Under 8 & 9 Lightning Carnivals.
Jack attended the clubs pie night in their temporary club rooms, fielding questions from numerous Under 8 & 9 players before personally meeting the carnival’s Under 8 Higgins team that had competed earlier that day. The players were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet the energetic and dynamic AFL Star that their team had been named after.
“The kids had plenty of interesting and entertaining questions for Jack, they really enjoyed meeting him” said club President Steve Foulds.
“It is great for our young players to have the opportunity to meet an AFL player who comes from their own club and to see a potential pathway. It was a lovely evening for our football community.”
Higgins has currently played 16 games in his debut year for the Tigers and will no doubt be nominated for goal of the year after his amazing effort at the goal-line in Round 19.
“Only a couple of season’s back I was running around Lucas oval representing the Knights in front of 50 to 70 spectators, and now I have to pinch myself when I run out at the MCG in front of 70,000. It’s a dream come true” he said at the event.
It is great to see SMJFL Alumni going back to the grassroots and inspiring the next generation of players.
