AJAX secured its second win of the season in emphatic style, defeating Mordialloc – Braeside at Princes Park on Mother’s Day weekend.

Flying out the gates, AJAX started the game strong and set the tone early, booting five goals to one in the first term.

This continued into the main break with AJAX limiting entries into Mordi-Brae’s forward 50, leaving them with just eight scoring shots in the half, pulling away with a 38-point lead.

“We wanted to play fast paced football when we had possession and looked to slow it down a bit on defence to stop their momentum,” said AJAX coach Jonah Wise.

Coming out of the half-time break, the Mustangs were able to contain the ball in their forward half, somewhat steaming the flow of the AJAX scoring rate.

“I thought they had a chance to put some real scoreboard pressure on, but we had some awesome team efforts on to prevent that,” Wise noted.

Whilst the Mustangs owned the territory battle in the second half, AJAX’s defensive pressure created plenty of chances from turnovers, ending with the Comets hitting the scoreboard.

“We took the win here and might as well keep it going, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”
