With extremely close games across Round 4 in the Youth Girls divisions, everyone in the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) is being kept on the edge of their seats. This top age competition has continuously consisted of nail biters.

Here is our weekend wrap:

Division 1: 

In the first match of Round 4, St Peters grabbed their first victory of the season with a 33-point win over St Bedes/Mentone. Despite a tight first half, St Peters managed to gain momentum in the third and last quarters, with the Tigers scoring just two behinds in the second half. While St Peters were a little inaccurate infront of goal, they  did control the last half of the game and secured their win by shutting down their opponent. Final Score: St Peters 6.14 50 def St Bedes/Mentone 2.5. 17

Though Bentleigh put up a valiant fight, they were defeated by Brighton Beach who charged home in the last quarter and ended the round with a 26-point win. Bentleigh were in front at the half time break, however Brighton Beach came back in third quarter and continued that momentum for the rest of the game, scoring 3 goals to none in the last term and ensuring they won the four points and first position on the ladder. Final Score: Brighton Beach 7.5 47 def Bentleigh 2.9 21

Beaumaris moved to second on the ladder following their 18-point victory over Prahran, who suffered their first loss of the season. The Sharks managed to keep Prahran goalless through the first half of the game, maintaining the lead across all four quarters and keeping Prahran to their single goal in the last half. Z. Titmus was a standout for Beaumaris, kicking all three of their goals. Final Score: Beaumaris 3.7 25 def Prahran 1.1 7

Division 2:

St Kilda City had a 54-point triumph over Oakleigh, who were left scoreless over the entirety of the match. Just too strong, St Kilda City dominated the game, with S. Dethridge leading the charge, kicking 3 of their 8 goals. This marks St Kilda City’s second win in a row, enabling them to hold their position at second on the ladder. In the last game of the round, East Brighton defeated Hampton in a close game that saw the Vampires win by a mere 4-points. The lead changed several times throughout the game, and despite East Brighton only scoring a single behind in the last quarter, they were able to keep Hampton completely scoreless to take the victory. Final Score: East Brighton 3.4 22 def Hampton 2.6.18
