South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) Umpire Academy Manager Cam Watts and league ambassador & veteran AFL umpire Justin Schmitt joined SEN Afternoons for a well-rounded discussion on umpiring from grassroots to the elite level.

The league has recently introduced its industry-leading Umpire Academy, which seeks to provide umpires of all ages in the region the necessary development and care to progress through the ranks and umpire to the best of one’s ability.

With the focus on a mentored-based program particularly for young umpires as part of the newly-created Academy, the SMJFL is on the hunt for more umpires in 2018 to help us assign up to two umpires per match.

The umpiring fraternity is a wonderful team environment driven by Cam and his team of committed coaches, with many youngsters combining both playing and umpiring or others just wanting to stay involved in footy.
