At South Metro Junior Football League, it’s about the kids.
Mission and values
We aim to provide kids with a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, while promoting health and wellbeing, and maximising participation in Australian Football.
Central to our operations and guiding everything we do are our core values of FAIR. We value:
-
Fun: we are passionate, energetic and innovative
-
Accountability: we work with openness and transparency
-
Integrity: we act with independence, honesty, fairness and impartiality
-
Respect: we lead with tolerance, inclusiveness and fairness for all
Membership and community
Our membership is rich in diversity, bringing together people from all backgrounds, genders and abilities, and it is this diversity that makes our community great.
In 2022, the SMJFL embraced and supported our 25 member clubs, 10, 754 registered players, 454 teams and 645 registered umpires. We provide competitions for girls from U10 to U18, for mixed teams from U8 to U13 and for boys from U14 to U17 ½.
The league operates over six local government authorities (LGA) and Parks Victoria and works closely with each authority as required.
Developing our people
We believe in the potential of people, and we support our community to reach their potential in various ways.
Our pathway programs include:
-
OpenCorp Umpire Academy
-
Player Pathway Development Academy
-
Coach Academy
Throughout the year we offer a range of development and learning opportunities for committee members to attend to help build stronger, more capable clubs and volunteers.
Safety
When we say ‘It’s all about the kids’ we mean it.
We have a strong focus on child safety and compliance with relevant legislation. The league requires clubs to provide a number of volunteers on match day to ensure the safe and efficient operation of matches and all volunteers must meet the requirements set out to ensure child safety.
History
We’ve been around a long time.
The Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League (MSJFL) was established in 1988 and was an unincorporated association. In 2012, the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) was established as a new entity and incorporated association. Members applied to join the new association and work has continued to build a strong, supportive league for the community.
Our motto is “It’s about the kids”. We have a strong focus on child safety and compliance with relevant legislation. In addition, the league requires clubs to provide a number of volunteers on match day to ensure the safe and efficient operation of matches.
