Five South Metro Stars have represented the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) over the weekend in the State Schools National Championships in Western Australia.
With the both the Under 15 boys and girls in Grand Final action, the Under 15 Victorian girls beat NSW by 44-points, with Sarah Hartwig (St Peters), Chloe Saultry (St Bedes/Mentone) and Nayely Borg (Port Melbourne) all lining up for the ‘Big V’
The Under 15 Victorian boys had a 45-point win over SA, with Darby Hipwell (East Sandringham) also Justin Davies (Mordialloc-Braeside) in action, with the former also earning All-Australian selection.
All made significant contributions to Victoria throughout the carnival and the Grand Final matches.
While Hipwell was unavailable for the Vic Metro Championships in 2017 due to APS school policy ,he has been a captain in our Interleague program for the past two years and Davies was the Under 14 Division 1 MVP in the Grand Final this year.
For the girls, Borg was voted MVP for the Under 15 Girls in 2016 as an under-ager, Hartwig was this year the Under 15 Girls Interleague MVP while Saultry won the 2016 SMJFL League Best & Fairest for her performances with her club.
It’s clear all have very bright AFL and AFLW prospects ahead.
