More than 80 girls attended the SMJFL’s annual Chick Kick Day on Saturday morning, braving drizzling rain and freezing conditions at Chisholm Reserve in Sandringham.

The special guest was Victorian Women’s Football League star and South Metro Girls ambassador Kara Donnellan, who took the girls through several clinics to improve their football skills.

Melbourne Football Club mascot Checker was also a hit, guiding the girls through some football drills.

Fox FM’s Matt Tilley was in attendance and was hilarious in persuading every girl to do the can-can at the end of the morning.

Overall, it was another successful day for South Metro Girls. The girls had heaps of fun and every participant took home a free footy and Melbourne Football Club poster.

The success of last year’s Chick Kick Day led to the creation of Victoria’s first Under 12 girls’ football division and increased demand in 2012 has led to the addition of Under 10 and Under 14 divisions.

Plenty of girls keen to sign up for the Under 10s attended on Saturday and each girl who registered their interest to play received a free footy pack. The division kicks off on June 23.

Any girls who haven’t yet registered for South Metro Girls football or couldn’t make it to Chick Kick, please contact the SMJFL on 9553 5985 or Opens window for sending emailadministration@smjfl.com.au to sign up.
