The 2013 edition of the SMJFL’s Chick Kick Day took place in mostly glorious conditions on Saturday morning at Boss James Reserve, Hampton.

Over 85 girls were in attendance, taking part in mini-matches and various training drills. Two players from the St Kilda Sharks FC women’s team were on hand to guide the girls through the drills and teach them some tricks of the trade.

A big modified rules match was set up at the end of the event between two impromptu teams, the Tigers and the imaginatively-named Chocolate Thunder.

Matches were officiated by second-year SMJFL umpire Emma Kubsch and first-time umpire Grace Bridges. SMJFL umpire coach Sam Bridges oversaw the matches.

Melbourne Football Club mascot Checker was also in attendance kicking goals, doing push-ups, being jumped on by children and reportedly getting extremely hot inside his large suit…

60 girls took the chance to register for the 2013 South Metro Girls season and even if you couldn’t make it on Saturday, there’s still time to sign up.
