Calling all Girls who love Aussie Rules

Melbourne Football Club and the South Metro Junior Football league (SMJFL) is launching an exciting new partnership to promote and develop Youth Girls Football on Saturday 9th of June at the Chick Kick day.

Victorian Womens Football League (VWFL) All Australian Kara Donnellan will be at the Chisholm Reserve in Sandringham conducting footy clinics and encouraging young girls to register their interest to play footy with the SMJFL from 9am. Donnellan is an ambassador of the partnership along with Demon midfielder Brent Moloney and is looking forward to the day saying “It is very exciting to be working with an AFL club with such a strong community focus particularly in the Youth Girls area”.

Melbourne Football Club has a strong commitment to grassroots football, and the local community. Part of the Demon’s commitment to grassroots football, is the support for Womens football and developing females in playing and administrating the game of Australian Rules.  Currently the Melbourne Football Club runs the Trident Girls Football Academy, an under 12 Girls team that plays against North Melbourne each year, and has partnerships with the VWFL, SEJ Youth Girls, and now the SMJFL Youth girls partnership.

The Melbourne Football Club and SMJFL partnership gives local kids access to Demon and VWFL players, coaching and administrative development opportunities, the Demon Friendly Clubs program which includes giveaways and ticket offers. SMJFL General Manager David Cannizzo is pleased to announce the partnership stating, “Working with the Melbourne Football Club will bring a level of profile and opportunities that over 8500 players in our league will now have access to”.

The Demon mascots Chuck and Checker will be at Chisholm Reserve and hope to see lots of SMJFL girls come along to the day aptly named “chick kick”, for information contact SMJFL on 9553 5985 or email Opens window for sending
