A message from the SMJFL Chairman and the Mayor of Bayside City Council

We really need your help for 1 minute !

Lack of appropriate facilities for women and girls is an acknowledged barrier to their participation in sport.

80% of the sporting infrastructure in Bayside was built pre 1960s and of our 27 pavilions, 96% have inadequate female change facilities.

The 1960s was an era when female sport was not well catered for. We are saying it’s not a level playing field, and it’s no longer acceptable.

We are asking both State and Federal governments to assist in rectifying generations of systemic under investment. The State Government has recently announced a $10M Female Friendly Facilities Fund. While this is a great start, it’s to be spread over 4 years and 79 councils. Divided equally it equates to $30k per council per year which really won’t go far to address the issue at hand.

Simply put, the SMJFL is an active part of the sporting community and in conjunction with The Mayor of Bayside, Felicity Frederico, we are asking that the funding be increased. We are also advocating for the Federal government to establish a specific fund.

All we are asking you to do;

Please help be part of the solution.

Regards,
Mr Peter Ryan, Chairman (SMJFL) & Mayor Felicity Frederico (City of Bayside)
