Ex-SMJFL figures are having a big week in the AFL…

On Monday night, former East Sandringham junior Jobe Watson won the AFL’s highest individual award, the Brownlow Medal, by four votes.

And, the SMJFL definitely won’t be without representation in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.

Former Beaumaris junior Jack Gunston will line up in attack for Hawthorn, while another former East Sandringham junior Ted Richards will be helping to hold up Sydney’s defence as he has all season.

But that’s not all – Simon Meredith, who commenced his umpiring career in the SMJFL, will umpire his first AFL Grand Final on Saturday.

The SMJFL is clearly a good breeding ground for AFL talent!
