Our club by club review of 2017 South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) season continues with East Malvern Knights next under the microscope.

  • Over 832 registered players
  • A record six girls teams, with 150 girls registered (an increase from 51 players on 2016 with 99 new players)

  • A record 16 teams participating in finals, with 10 of those in Grand Finals
  • A record six premierships won, one in every age group from Under 11’s and up
  • Under 15 Girls Interleague MVP (Division 2) – Mia Cowan
  • SMJFL League Best & Fairest winners across Under 15 Boys Div 4 (Tom Perry) and Under 16 Girls Div 2 (Mia Caffry) age-groups
  • 29 players Top-10 placegetters

  • Off The Field
  • Winner of the inaugural Monash University Leadership Award was Jessica Stolz for her leadership and development of other young girls at the football club
  • SMJFL Secretary of the Year – Steven Strong (Runner-Up)
  • SMJFL Junior Coach of the Year and finalist in AFL Victoria’s State Coach of the Year – Gerard Feehan
  • Other Achievements/Highlights
  • Club participation in the ‘East Malvern RSL Anzac Day Cup’
  • Continuation of the ‘Two Cities Challenge’ with Mosman Swans Football Club (NSW). with two Under 10 teams heading to Sydney to play and Under 11’s hosting the challenge in Melbourne
  • Cairns trip for an Under 13’s team to play against an Indigenous team from AFL Cape York House
