The 2017 South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) season was one of unprecedented growth in the Inner Southern football region and beginning this week, we’ll be reviewing the year that was club by club.

10,564 registered players, 456 teams and 26 member clubs across six municipalities in the south-east of Melbourne.

  • A club record 32 teams across all age groups from Under 8 to Youth Girls
  • Boys teams in all age groups
  • Seven girls teams across Under 10, 12, 14, 16 & Youth Girls
  • On The Field
  • 10 teams in Grand Finals
  • Five successfully winning Premierships
  • Three League Best & Fairest winners, including five placing second and five in third
  • 18 players representing the SMJFL in Interleague across U13-U15 in both boys and girls

  • The annual Ladies Lunch had 250 women in attendance, with 181 bags being donated to Share the Dignity, which supports women in crisis
  • Tamara Miller recognised as the Club’s Woman of the Year
  • Lachlan Francis awarded a Bayside Youth Courage Award for his brave fight against leukemia and his participation with the Under 17’s at Beaumaris despite not being able to play
  • Club participation in the AFL funded research program, ‘Benchmarking Talent Development in the Australian Football League System’, aiming to better understand the manner in which talent develops within the AFL pathway
  • Involvement in the ReBoot campaign, established to help equip young Indigenous players with pre-loved football boots
  • Mark and Tracey Francis, Phillip Cardamone, Peter Duignan and Bernie Ladds were awarded Club Volunteer awards for outstanding service
  • Andrew Newman a finalist in the SMJFL Administrator of the Year

  • Andrew Courtney and Kyle Yorke (emergency) both selected for the Vic Metro Under 16 squad
  • Charlie Harrop (Under 12’s) selected for the Victorian State Squad
  • Annual Cottesloe Cup game held in August against Under 12 Cottesloe FC
