On Monday night the SMJFL Umpires had their night of nights at the Kingston Town Hall.

The SMJFL Umpire Presentation Night was a great opportunity for the umpiring group to acknowledge the efforts and improvement made by our talented group of young, up-and-coming officiators.

In addition, the evening served to celebrate and reward the most outstanding contributions of our umpires, as well as encourage them to strive to be the best they can be.

We were lucky enough to hear from top AFL Umpire Justin Schmitt, who offered the SMJFL umpires words of encouragement, as well as detail his path to the elite level.

The main take away from Schmitt’s presentation was that there are members of the SMJFL group that can make it into the top level with continued application and dedication to their craft.

The highlight of the night was the presentation of the prestigious AFL Victoria Golden Whistle Award, which went to promising young boundary umpire, Courtney Stelling.

Darcy Trewarn (SFNL) and Sam Perkins (VAFA) were also recognised for they brilliant efforts, receiving the Pathway Awards for their respective senior football competitions.
