On Wednesday 1st June the South Metro Stars Under 14 and Under 15 squads will commence their campaign for interleague glory in the AFL Victoria Metro Junior Championships.

Last week the boys and girls received their SMJFL representative playing jumpers after many weeks of training and preparation for this year’s interleague carnival and are now as ready as they can be for the first round of matches.

Ahead of the carnival we caught up with Director of Coaching (Interleague) – David Sheridan. He expressed his anticipation on the eve of Round 1.

“It’s getting to the exciting phase of the program where we get to compete to be the Victorian Metro Champions against other suburban leagues. Should we make the final, this is the first of 4 games.

After months of dedication from the boys, girls and coaches, it’s almost time to bounce the ball for our first encounter – vs Eastern Football League, a traditionally tough opponent.

We expect a great contest.”

Sheridan, who came into his role late last year is impressed by the 2016 squads and coaches.

“If you have not seen it before you may be amazed by the level these kids can play, when playing along side highly skilled team mates, against quality opponents. You can be sure our SMJFL teams will leave nothing behind in their effort to make the league proud.

It would truly be great if the community got behind all the teams in Round One, but particularly the U15 boys who play at Moorleigh Reserve, Bentleigh East, and the Girls who play at Walter Galt Reserve, Mordialloc.

I hope you can join us and make the experience really special for all involved.”

On behalf of the South Metro Junior Football League we wish all players the very best of luck tomorrow night and throughout the entire representative carnival. We know you will all represent yourselves, your clubs and you league with distinction.
