The weather has been ordinary in Melbourne this week, but that won’t stop SMJFL clubs suiting up for Round 6, proudly brought to you by Options Consulting Group – the exclusive Human Resources Partner of the SMJFL.
Here is the Pepper Money Preview for Round 6.
Under 18 Girls Division 1 – Hampton Rovers vs Ashwood
Sunday 4.00pm, Boss James Reserve
With both of these sides coming off losses last week, they will be keen to turn things around when they meet at Boss James Reserve. Both teams were able to hit the scoreboard last week, so an even, attacking game is on the cards.
Under 18 Girls Division 2 – Prahran vs East Brighton Vampires
Sunday, 2.45pm, Toorak Park
With both Prahran and East Brighton Vampires coming off four-point victories last weekend, only one side will keep its perfect start to life in Division 2 going this Sunday at Toorak Park. Both sides kicked more behinds than goals last week, so it may be a case of whichever team kicks straighter comes out on top.
Under 17 Boys Division 1 – Dingley vs Bentleigh
Sunday 2.00pm, Souter Reserve
Dingley and Bentleigh meet at Souter Reserve on Sunday in what is shaping as one of the games of Round 6. Both sides had a win last weekend, although Bentleigh were given a scare from St Bedes/Mentone Tigers who nearly broke their unbeaten streak in 2019. The Dingoes had an easier time of it against Beaumaris but will need to bring their best footy to knock over the Demons.
Under 17 Boys Division 2 – Caulfield vs Cheltenham
Sunday 2.00pm, Koornang Park
Cheltenham will fancy their chances of another win away from home against Caulfield after knocking off Waverley Park Hawks last week. The Bears will be looking to bounce back after a tight loss to St Kilda City where inaccurate kicking cost them and the familiar surrounds of Koornang Park will certainly be an advantage.
Under 16 Boys Division 1 – St Bedes/Mentone Tigers vs Mordialloc Braeside
Sunday 12.00pm, Mentone Reserve
St Bedes/Mentone Tigers will be looking for a win over Mordialloc Braeside at Mentone Reserve on Sunday after a last-start loss to Beaumaris. The Mustangs will be no pushover however, with a narrow win over East Brighton Vampires under their belt from last week.
Under 16 Girls Division 2 – Beaumaris vs Cheltenham
Sunday 12.00pm, Beaumaris Secondary College
The Sharks and Panthers meet at Beaumaris Secondary College on Sunday in an early test of where these two teams are placed in Division 2. With Cheltenham sitting on top and Beaumaris just below them, there are some bragging rights up for grabs.
Under 15 Boys Division 2 – Murrumbeena vs St Bedes/Mentone Tigers
Sunday 3.05pm, Moorleigh Reserve
Murrumbeena and St Bedes/Mentone Tigers meet at Moorleigh Reserve with the Tigers looking to continue their early-season dominance in Division 2. They swept aside Cheltenham/Highett last week and Murrumbeena will need to bring their A game to get the chocolates.
Under 14 Girls Division 1 – Prahran vs East Brighton Vampires
Sunday 3.45pm, Como Park
East Brighton Vampires come off their bye and head to Como Park to take on Prahran, who will be looking to return to the winner’s circle after a loss to Mordialloc Braeside last weekend. Having kicked just 2.1 in that game, more scoring shots will be the order of the day for the home side.
Under 14 Mixed Division 2 – Bentleigh vs Waverley Park Hawks
Sunday 10.00am, Bentleigh Reserve
After being held scoreless last week by Ajax, Bentleigh will be keen on chalking up four points against Waverley Park Hawks. The Hawks were outgunned by Ormond last week, so there’s plenty of incentive for these two teams heading into this weekend.
Under 13 Mixed Division 2 – St Kilda City vs Mordialloc Braeside
Sunday 10.30am, Wattie Watson Oval
Both of these teams are coming off healthy wins last weekend, with City beating Hampton Rovers by 34 points and the Mustangs trouncing Ormond by 71. Sitting at 4-1, City will be keen to play well on their home deck and extend their gap at the top of the ladder.
