The weather may be cooling down, but the competition is heating up as teams jostle for position in their respective divisions across the league.
Here are the games we’ll be keeping an eye on for the Round 3 Pepper Money Preview.
Under 18 Girls – East Malvern vs Beaumaris
Sunday 2.00pm, Darling Park
Darling Park will play host to an early-season top of the table clash between East Malvern and Beaumaris. Neither team has lost a game and amazingly the Knights have not had a single point scored against them in the first two rounds. Both teams have been scoring freely and this looms as one of the games of the weekend.
Under 17 Boys Division 1 – St Peters vs Mordialloc Braeside
Sunday 1.10pm, Centenary Park
St Peters and Mordailloc Braeside are two of the front runners in the Under 17 Division 1 competition and top spot on the ladder will potentially be up for grabs on Sunday. With both teams’ percentage sitting north of 240, there should be plenty of attacking football on display at Centenary Park.
Under 16 Boys Division 3 – Caulfield Bears vs Ajax
Sunday 1.05pm, East Caulfield Reserve
Caulfield will be looking for their third win in as many games when they meet Ajax (Jets) at East Caulfield Reserve on Sunday afternoon. The Bears have had no troubles over the first fortnight of the season, dispatching Beaumaris and St Bedes/Mentone Tigers. Ajax went down in a close encounter to Mordialloc Braeside in Round 1 but bounced back against Ormond last week, so their confidence will be up.
Under 16 Girls Yellow – Cheltenham vs Waverley Park Hawks
Sunday 10.30am, Le Page Park
Cheltenham will be out to end Waverley Park Hawks’ unbeaten streak on Sunday morning when the two sides meet at Le Page Park. The Hawks have been very impressive over the first two weeks of competition, having not had a single point registered against them so far. The Panthers chalked up their first win of the year against Ashwood last week and will look to continue that momentum.
Under 15 Boys Division 3 – Caulfield Bears vs Murrumbeena
Sunday 11.05am, East Caulfield Reserve
Another top of the table fixture, this time between Caulfield and Murrumbeena. Neither side had any difficulties across the first two rounds, with big wins meaning their percentages are both very healthy. The winner of this game will potentially be the only undefeated side after three rounds, pending the outcome of the match between East Sandringham Rovers (also undefeated) and Port Melbourne/South Melbourne.
Under 14 Mixed Division 2 – St Paul’s Highett vs Brighton Beach
Sunday 10.30am, Highett Reserve
St Paul’s Highett will be looking for their second win and Brighton Beach will look to register their first points of the season as they go head to head at Highett Reserve. Both teams ran into strong opposition last week and this match presents an opportunity for a very competitive hit out.
Under 14 Girls Violet – St Paul’s McKinnon vs St Bedes/Mentone Tigers
Sunday 10.30am, McKinnon Reserve
These two teams are flying in the Under 14 Violet competition and remain the only two sides to have not lost a game. On paper they appear very evenly matched, so this will be an intriguing contest at McKinnon Reserve with the winner to be the outright ladder leader.
Under 13 Mixed Division 3 – Dingley vs East Brighton Vampires
Sunday 10.15am, Souter Reserve
The Dingoes and Vampires meet for the first time this season as the Under 13 Mixed Division 3 competition continues to take shape. Dingley couldn’t be separated from Oakleigh last week as they played out a draw, while East Brighton Vampires scored a win in Round 1 before running into a slick Caulfield Bears outfit last week.
